2. Who should I use? Not a person who works out of their truck, but a company which has:

 

1. Shown they can run a business for more than a few years.
2. Completed other projects similar to yours.
3. Can provide you with referrals of past projects.
4. Demonstrated professionalism by involvement in trade associates like The Panhandle Builders Association, the National Remodelors Association and the Better Business Bureau.
3. What steps should the project take when I am ready?

 

1. Make a wish list ranking the most important to the least important.
2. Meet with the contractor at your home to discuss the general idea and get a rough idea of the project's cost.
3. Begin working with bank or lending institution on ability to attain a loan.
4. Once it looks like a loan will be available, call the contractor to set up the next meeting to establish drawings specifications to enable the contractor to work up a budgeted cost.
5. After contractor has had time to work up cost (7 to 10 days) review the contractor's estimate and discuss specifics of items that should be spelled out in contract.
6. Sign the contract and begin the steps in proceeding with project through permitting, selections, and setting time schedules.
